New implementation of Distributed Lighting control

Retrofit Environment

The distributed lighting control & automation project of SASV Nicolet is a perfect example of the typical applications the DimOnOff powerline product line is targeted at:

  1. - A group of buildings built several decades ago, requiring modernization of its facilities, due to a change of mission of these buildings, from a college to a housing and medical care building for elderly residents.

  2. - This change of mission requires, by law of building codes, the implementation of a lighting control & automation system, structured to react to various inputs from astronomical clocks, fire alarm system, power generator startup, photocells, and numerous multi-functionnal programmable keypads.

  3. - The desire of the engineering firm responsible for the project, to find an effective way to minimize the layout of new electrical control wiring or communication wiring, which would have represented important cost in tearing plaster walls to run kilometers of control wiring, and then replaster and repaint all these walls...

Utilization of DimOnOff voltage couplers and phase couplers enabled  setting the complete powerline comunication infrastructure necessary to communicate to a large group of various relays (adressable and intelligent), distributed throughout the buildings, at the various required points of control.

A special pannel was designed, using DimOnOff  Multi I/O interface boards, to monitor various status of photocells, clocks, outputs of fire alarm systems, and power generator, in order to supply data elements to a control logic, which is totall programmable, enabling to define and redefine (without ever having to run any wire) group of lighting that will be controlled based on various inputs, to execute specific scenarios.
