Everybody will recognize the necessity to supply an adequate lighting level for commercial parking lots. Nevertheless, the fact that each of these laps will consume from 400 to 1000w, and that each lamp post may have several lamps, all subject to maintenance and relamping, and adding their important power consumption, ... and too often, during several hours per night, they are all On because everything is driven by a simple photocell. That level of lighting is not necessary after hours: nobody buys a car after 10PM, and 50% of that level will be sufficient for security purposes (confirmed by Insurance caompanies.)

Why not simply install Lighting automation? Here's why traditional control system could not.

The vast majority of parking lots are similarly equipped for lighting: several lamp-posts, with 1-4 lamps (typically HID), all connected to the electrical power by a single wire driven in the center of the pole. Then, How can we, with just one set of wire, control each of these lamps individually, so all lamp-posts are still in use to conserve a uniform lighting pattern, but also, to schedule a rotation every other night, so all lamps get used evenly ?

Simply: The installation of an Intelligent & Addressable relay, directly in each fixture, will allow, without ever having to break the asphalt or concrete to run new controls wires, to link all these lamps to the electrical room, where a fully-configurable scheduling control module will be installed, to trigger various scenarios according to days of the weeks, holidays, etc.

While we're a it: Car dealerships are all equipped with mechanical and body shops, storage for parts & tires, paint rooms, for which it becomes easy to automate lighting patterns. But mainly, if we target Power savings, it becomes very easy to add one or more relays to automate Air compressors, used for power tools and paint shops. Due to the fact that compressed air hoses leak (a little or a lot), compressors keep restarting every 15 minutes or so for a few minutes, ... all night long, and for no reason but to waste energy.

Examples of automation & Control are everywhere. And it is now Simple to install it: Get your equipment new DimOnOff Powerline relays !
