Strategic $6M Investment Powers Dimonoff’s Global Smart City Expansion via Amotus’ Fundamentum IoT Platform
A joint investment of $6 million from Fondaction and the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) marks a major milestone for Fundamentum, the IoT platform developed by Amotus, the software and electronics engineering division of Dimonoff. This strategic boost not only accelerates the advancement of IoT in Quebec but also amplifies Dimonoff’s international reach.
Fundamentum: The Backbone of Smarter Cities
Developed in-house by Amotus, Fundamentum is a robust and scalable IoT platform designed for the secure, large-scale management of connected device networks. Already powering over 850,000 connected modules across North America, including in cities like Montreal, Laval, Mississauga, Pittsburgh, and Springfield, this Quebec-built technology is a cornerstone of modern urban infrastructure.
In Montreal, for example, more than 135,000 smart streetlights are monitored every 15 minutes, resulting in energy savings of 35-45% while maintaining high safety standards.
A Catalyst for Innovation, Backed by Committed Partners
This $6 million investment is far more than just financial backing, it’s a strategic endorsement of Fundamentum’s relevance for the smart cities of tomorrow. It will empower Dimonoff to fast-track the development of advanced features, strengthen its cybersecurity posture, a key component in the resilience of critical infrastructure and expand its reach into global markets. Pascal Dion of BDC adds, “This is a visionary team, driven by a culture of ingenuity and impact”, qualities that convinced both institutions to invest in growth that is sustainable, resilient, and scalable internationally.
“Dimonoff’s integrated approach delivers a turnkey solution that’s both robust and efficient, generating energy and cost savings that benefit governments, the environment, and citizens alike,”
Alain Longpré, Deputy Chief of Impact Investments at Fondaction.
Leading the Way in Industrial and Urban IoT
As the developer behind Fundamentum, Amotus plays a pivotal role in this success. Its expertise spans the full technological spectrum: from embedded systems design and IoT software development to cybersecurity and cloud architecture.
Fundamentum was designed to be modular, secure, and highly adaptable, and includes features such as:
- Centralized access and authentication management (SSO, OAuth 2.0)
- Remote device management and update tools
- Broad compatibility with industrial protocols (MQTTS, HTTPS, LoRaWAN)
- Advanced analytics and edge AI capabilities
When Quebec Innovation Lights Up the World
With Fundamentum, Dimonoff and its Amotus division prove that Quebec’s technical expertise can compete, and shine, on a continental scale. Thanks to the support of dedicated financial partners, this locally developed technology is emerging as a benchmark for building smart, connected, and sustainable cities of the future. It’s a powerful example of what local ingenuity can achieve when backed by bold ambition.
"We rely on brilliant minds to drive innovation. The same goes for our financial partners: sharing a common vision is essential to creating real impact,"
Bernard Têtu, President and Co-founder of Dimonoff.
