Dimonoff joins the Wi-SUN Alliance as a contributing member

Vectanor Group, Dimonoff's parent company, joined the Wi-SUN Alliance as a contributing member in March 2026, giving it a seat in the technical working groups that write the open mesh standard for outdoor IoT.

What the Wi-SUN Alliance is

Wi-SUN, for Wireless Smart Ubiquitous Network, is a non-profit industry association of more than 300 member organisations across 46 countries. It does one thing that matters to a municipal buyer: it certifies, through independent laboratories, that equipment from different manufacturers will work on the same network.

The Wi-SUN FAN specification, for Field Area Network, is built on IEEE 802.15.4 and IPv6. It forms a self-healing mesh that scales to millions of devices over a wide area. More than 100 million Wi-SUN devices are deployed worldwide, including street lighting networks in Miami, Paris and London.

Why a city should care

Vendor lock-in is the risk that outlives every smart infrastructure contract. A network that only accepts one manufacturer’s hardware sets the price of the next ten years of expansion before the first pole is touched. Certified interoperability is the direct answer to that: it puts a second supplier within reach without replacing the network.

The security side is certified rather than asserted, which is the part worth reading closely. Wi-SUN FAN requires X.509 device certificates with ECDSA-SHA256 for device identity, AES-CCM encryption, EAP-TLS mutual authentication under IEEE 802.1X, and automatic key rotation with configurable lifetimes. Each of those is verified in third-party testing at Wi-SUN appointed laboratories, not claimed on a datasheet.

What Dimonoff brings

Dimonoff arrives with field experience rather than a specification exercise: more than 575 projects in six countries and over 850,000 products deployed, across cities of every size. Montréal runs 132,500 streetlights on the platform, Laval 37,000 with a stated target of $2.75 million saved a year, and the Fédération québécoise des municipalités programme has connected more than 145,000 streetlights for municipalities too small to negotiate alone.

The company’s existing controllers already follow the standards-first approach the alliance is built on. The RME external controller is certified to ANSI C136.41 and Zhaga Book 18; the RTM internal controller and the LNLV low-voltage node extend the same platform to other fixture types, and the G3 gateway carries up to 1,000 nodes.

As a contributing member, Vectanor Group takes part in shaping future Wi-SUN specifications, with access to the technical working groups and draft standards. The open API of the SCMS platform is what the Wi-SUN certified devices would be managed through alongside the existing network.

Availability

North American public agencies can buy the smart lighting solutions, SCMS included, either directly or through the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing contract #041525-DIMN, valid through July 2029. A cooperative contract removes the separate competitive process for an agency that is already a Sourcewell member, which is usually the longest part of the calendar rather than the hardest.
