Dimonoff on Nasdaq TradeTalks: IoT and climate solutions

Daniel Noiseux joined Nasdaq TradeTalks with Jill Malandrino, alongside guests from Digi International and Taiga Motors, to discuss how connected streetlights and sensors let a city use the grid it already has rather than expand it.

Daniel Noiseux, Executive Vice-President and General Manager, joined Nasdaq TradeTalks with host Jill Malandrino, alongside guests from Digi International and Taiga Motors, for a conversation about the role connected infrastructure plays in climate work.

His argument was about existing assets rather than new ones. Streetlights, meters and sensors already sit on every street; connecting and coordinating them turns isolated devices into something that can respond to demand. Electrification, as he put it on air, is outrunning the grid — and the cheaper answer is to make the infrastructure a city already owns cooperate, rather than to build more of it.

Speaking on the programme, he put the share of the world’s street lighting currently under smart control at roughly 19 per cent, and the energy that share leaves unmanaged at more than 140 terawatt-hours a year. Whatever the precise figure, the shape of it is the point: most street lighting on earth is still switched, not managed.

He also made the case for maintenance as the overlooked lever. Diagnosing a fault before dispatching anyone, resolving what can be resolved remotely, and sending a crew once with the right part — that is fewer truck rolls, longer asset life and lower emissions, none of which shows up in a dashboard of watts saved.
